Have yourselves a Coal Mine Christmas

December 13-23, 2016  |  A Coal Mine Christmas  | COAL MINE THEATRE, TORONTO
Small theatre brings Louise Pitre and Kenneth Welsh together in alternative holiday show.
But the place to be this December might once again be a storefront start-up. A Coal Mine Christmas, the holiday show at the 100-seat Coal Mine Theatre on Danforth Ave., is pairing two Canadian theatre legends who rarely, if ever, perform in venues of that size: Tony-nominated musical theatre performer Louise Pitre (Mamma Mia!), and stage, film and TV actor Kenneth Welsh (Twin PeaksThe Aviator, Stratford Festival).
Coal Mine Theatre co-founder Ted Dykstra arranged the two to complement each other with solo performances. Pitre begins with a lineup of non-traditional holiday songs with accompanist Chris Mounteer, followed by Welsh, who will read Dylan Thomas’s classic A Child’s Christmas in Wales.
